Campaign to End the Abuse of Smilies Everywhere

CEASE (the 'Campaign to End the Abuse of Smilies Everywhere') was formed in late 2003 by a team of top international lawyers and experts on civil liberties. Its main aim is to highlight the growing problem of the abuse of smilies in all countries. CEASE concentrates on exposing the plight of individual smilies and by publicising these case histories as widely as possible it is expected that governments worldwide will begin to face up to the realities of the  widespread social and economic injustices that affect smilies. By such methods CEASE hopes to bring this hitherto hidden scandal to an end.

Evidence

Hundreds of undercover CEASE agents are working tirelessly in a bid to gather evidence which can be used to prosecute those involved in the commercial exploitation of smilies.  But hundreds of operatives still isn't enough - we need thousands.  All this work is funded solely by donations from caring members of the public.

Even when cases do come to court it is often hard to get people to testify, due to the persistent problem of the intimidation of witnesses. This is often a sign that organized crime syndicates are behind much of the smiley abuse around the world.  In some cultures however what we see as mistreatment of smilies is regarded as normal and it is in the cultural arena that the problem can be most difficult to tackle.

Shameful

But possibly the most difficult problem of all is that an awful lot of smilies are being abused and exploited by, wait for it...other smilies! And until this shameful state of affairs is changed all the other troubles that beset smilies are likely to continue.
